Located on the east side of Cincinnati, Hyde Park is known for its stately homes sitting on large, rolling lots, wooded estates, and tops of hills overlooking the Ohio River. The majority of homes in Hyde Park are elegant with an abundance of charm. There are also areas with smaller single-family homes, apartments, condominiums, and townhouses. Hyde Park was founded in 1892 by several prominent Cincinnati businessmen who wanted to create a community exclusively for Cincinnati’s wealthy. The neighborhood is named after New York’s fashionable Hyde Park area, which the men wanted to duplicate. There are picnic and play areas at Ault Park and Alms Park, two of Cincinnati’s largest and most beautiful parks. The private Hyde Park Country Club has an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts and a swimming pool. The Cincinnati Country Club, also private, has an 18-hole golf course, swimming pool, squash and tennis courts. The Mt. Lookout Swim Club is private. Nearby Lunken Playfield (public) offers tennis, archery, golf, baseball, etc.. Marinas along the nearby Ohio River provide excellent facilities for boating enthusiasts. An indoor tennis club is located across from Lunken Airport and a racquetball facility is conveniently located in nearby Fairfax. There are also a variety of athletic and recreational activities sponsored by neighborhood schools, churches and special interest groups.
